I have 2000 GTI GLX over 193,000 miles on a 12v vr6. I never had any issues with replacing anything besides tires,pads,air filter, oil e.t.c. normal maintanece no horror stories where is vw getting all this negative rap? I never have any issues and I had the car for 9 years.

Maybe if your only other car choices are Fiat and Lada…

vw has one of the worse quality rating of any car in NA…
