Great drill - it has all but cured my ugly spin-out move. This one and Jack’s pre-set position on page 46 of ” Play Better Golf ” have really added some juice to my ball striking. For lack of a better description it seems like I’m playing a different game- Thanks Shawn !!!

Hello Mr. Clemshaw,
I have started golfing maybe two months ago,and it is progressing quite well. I just had a question for you. How do you know what club to select depending on the distance? I have every club in my bag, except for the driver because I don’t feel that I can hit it well enough yet. Any videos I can watch that will explain which club to use and where would be a huge help.
Thank you sir, Justin.

You will see that you want to keep the knees stacked on top of the feet in the complete swing; no rolling of the feet whatsoever! There should never be any feel of thrusting from the knees either; just a stacked rotation to allow the arms to swing freely in both directions; Thanks for the comment! Shawn

I did not realize that! I do it in the dvd though!
You can really smoke it this way! Shawn

Was hoping you’d hit it at the end.

Oh man this drill is so AWESOME!!! I just decided to start golfing about 2 weeks ago and after I saw this video I decided to go to the range and give it a try. After doing this drill a couple times with the PW I was hitting perfect 95% of the time, where as before I was only hitting maybe 40%. Then I moved up my clubs and it works for every club. Its amazing! Thanks for the video, helped a lot!

When doing this drill my left knee bends forward from my body, and toward my right toe….not my right knee. On the downswing, the right knee does the same as the left knee did on the backswing, but in the opposite direction. Is this correct? I feel as if my knees are the ’strings’ in my swing and the bending and straightening of them seems to put my clubhead in the same point of the ground. I’ve not hit balls yet. The feeling of the movement is different than I’m used to. Is it right?

See the “You tube Analogies” page on my website and see the second subject; the other analogies are good too and some will help with the tilt;

I’ve been practicing the “Feet Together” drill, but it seems that my club face is still open at the bottom of the swing. What could be causing this? My hands and arms are pretty loose.

shawn: I have been working hard on this exercise. you stress” **** swiveling toward target” . shouldn’t the aft portion of my **** be going not in a lateral direction but in a circular direction ? if so any omment? I have had a 60 yr. old problem with my right hip moving laterally back on my takeaway, causing inconsistent shots. I am not trying to be info sponge. but I love the game and respect your professional knowledge. also , I am not familiar with your pre tilt and pre turn position,

Shawn: I didn’t finish my recent question. Specifically, I hahen’t hit a good fairway wood since Pearl Harbor. I get no elevation or distance, and I often hit fat shots even though I’m playing the ball 2-3 inches off my left heel. Some instructors say “sweep” the ball. Others say hit down slightly, taking a slight divot. Confusion! Poor results both ways.

I am workingon this neat drill with some success [I am a 12 handicap] The part I have the biggest problem with is the gravity drop from the top. Any tips?

Yes there is such a thing; see my “Golf Pro Lesson Downswing weightshift” and my “Golf Pro Lesson 2008 golf swing review part 1 and 2″; then see the “Golf Pro Lesson Tilted Spiral” part 1,2 and 3 as well as the “One leg swing no weightshift” videos; I know this is a lot but is well worth understanding it and then you want to feel it and then forget about it!

Shawn,
I’ve never seen such great golf instruction on the internet. Thank you.
I have a recurring problem where my left arm is too much out in front of the club at impact, it’s not that the club is delofted too much, it’s just that my left arm is so much out in front that the clubface is pointed to the right at impact, even though I have a good bowed left wrist position at impact. Will this drill help me cure this problem? What other videos/drills would you suggest I do?
Thanks,
Joel

How much tilt is enough? I have never tilted so this is new to me. It feels awkward to me. Is there such a thing as too much tilt?

Hello bbellur!
Yes, please go to my website and see the “You Tube Shawn” page where you will have a listing of all my videos; see the Arm Section for the “Golf Pro Lesson Arm Motion” video and see the “Full Swing section” for the “Golf Pro Lesson Taut Swing Philosophy” video where you will see the baseball analogy in the first couple minutes of this video; you will also like “Gold Pro Lesson Bridging Flat wrist with Hinged Wrists” video; My DVD explains this early in the first disc; Shawn

Dear Shawn, I have had trouble releasing the club and my idea of release is to let the clubhead pass thru the impact area while my right hands go under my left hands….. cant seem to rotate my right over my left - any drills you can suggest?

Point well taken! I will henceforth “Compress through” balls using this dirll.
Thanks,

Yes of course!! It is a blast! However, let me re-phrase your question: “May I allow golf balls to be hit with this through ward motion towards the target?” Just making sure you are not going to try to “hit the ball” and just let the ball get in the way of the generated “Effortless, Powerful and Heavy momentum” of this swing…:)

Shawn:
Should we hit balls using this drill?
Thanks
