I passed my test in ‘98 & my 2nd car was a Silver ‘84 Capri 1.6 Lazer bought for £450 but cost £890 to insure 3rd party:-0 and they didn’t even know about the extras I tuned it with either:-S was one of the best ***** magnets I’ve ever driven though, brilliant cars, especially when its a rainy day:-) anyone who has owned a Capri will understand the fun you can have on wet roads with a it:-)

My first car was a 1987 Audi 5000 S also known as the Audi 100. I paid 2000 dollars for it and it had 50 thousand miles on it. Not to mention it was also fully loaded. After I got it, I found the pay stub from the original owner under the seat. That particular car cost them around 37,000 bucks brand new in 1987. It also had the unbeatable 2.3L 5 cylinder. Awesome car.

I still have a 18-year GTD and it’s indestructible. No rust, all the electrics (they’re not many, you know) work, extremely good handling, excellent mileage. If someone’s looking for an extremely tough-low-mantenience bargain car, old Golfs and Jettas do a great job.

They seem to be forgetting about insurance costs!!!
My first car was a Peugeot 205 diesel and you’d think the insurance would be next to nothng for an old non turbo Diesel, think again! It seems with some insurance companies if you’ve got a big engine, even if it’s steam powered their going to charge you a lot. That’s why most young drivers have 1.2 Corsa’s 1.1 Fiesta’s etc???

I had a Ford Capri 1.6 as my 2nd car at 18 and now own a 2.0, and it is a BRILLIANT car. That 1.6 saved my life when the back-end did it’s usual job of flipping me into a ditch/tree- double-skin steel chasis/body took all the impact and she started (!!!!) first time after spending the night on her back! Insurance was as low as a Nissan Micra at 18 years old.
Go for it! Classic car, brilliant car.

try looking at insurance before buying a car, it helps. And a 1.1 is perfectly respectable. In the uk you can get a bloody good car for £400, and even more so at the moment.
