You Bet! See “golf pro lesson leverage uphill” for a great compliment to this! Right foot should stay down through impact and into the finish! As I said before, this move saved Kenny Perry’s career as well as Scott Verplank! Shawn

This one as well as the “golf pro lesson leverage power uphill” which is the way Kenny Perry learned to resolve the same issue you have; It has worked wonders for him as well as Scott Verplank!

Please see “golf pro lesson learn your golf machine” for this one! Also, “golf pro lesson X-out the X-factor!” Thanks for the comment and responses guys! Shawn

Please don’t. This is called X-factor. It’s a very bad idea and will cause all kinds of problems.

I agree with rands76.
However, I thought we supposed to create tension between the shoulder and the hip during the back swing.

Everyone, this the best golf tip on youtube!

Make sure you keep focused on the target! If you default to the ball, you will deliver the juice to the ground instead of the target! See “golf pro lesson eye ball” and “golf pro lesson how to repeat your practice swing” ; Thanks for the question! Shawn

Shawn, I think this video is appropriate for the problem I seem to be having??? I am a lefty and find myself/body moving into/toward the ball and weight out on my toes as I am coming down. This causes me to block/slice the ball to the left. Do you have any other suggestions or drills that might help prevent me from moving into the ball? Thanks

If you want to exercise this on driving ranges you can use your golf bag as a wall. On the backswing slide your right pocket against your 3-wood in a bag. On the downswing, make sure the right pocket stays steady.
btw, this hip movement is like lifting a rocking chair at the front side of the rockers. Rockers will slide, but no visible lateral movement and the downswing is just letting the gravity rock the chair back to front.

Great video Shawn!
When I make this move it feels like my head and right shoulder and dropping as the downswing begins - going under the shot. As this is different, I’m hoping it means I’m doing something right!
Also, do you feel keeping the right foot planted as long as possible helps with this move?

So how long have you been a teaching pro, rushey1? By the looks of the videos on your profile, you’re another one of these young teenage jerks who already knows it all.
If you knew anything about how the body works in a golf swing, you would know that you don’t need to worry about the wrists. Due to the force of the downswing, they will unhinge on their own without having to think about it. That’s why ALL top teachers preach lag; the wrists naturally do what they need to.

hogan was a hooker spinning the left leg first only wrks if u hook the ball.lol u never talk about the uncocking of the wrists on the way dwn.power is the unhingeing of the club from 90 degrees to fully un cocked not from hips!!!!!! or lag ,lag doesnt increase power im sick of people saying the wrong thing!!!!

Hi Shawn,
Just finished watching disk 1 of your dvd and I have a question. Should I be practicing this drill because I think I am squatting too much on the downswing and Im hitting the ground before the ball, i think I am turning around my spine but could need more practice, it could also be related to set up position as well?

you’re better off trying to wipe the pane of glass clean than wipe your **** along a mirror behind you … do what he says and rotation axis too much between the hip joints, instead of favoring the lead one

Hey Shawn, great vid as usual, tried it felt strange but the ’squat’ really gave me a solid ‘planted’ feeling. Btw has anyone ever told you that you look a lot like Will Ferrel the actor.

Awesome observation!! Yes it is and this helps counter balance the centrifugal pull of the arms swinging in front of the body; the mirror drill is to expand of the chair drill you have seen with other teachers; this drill is great for golfers who need to make some room in front of them through impact; see “golf pro lesson downswing weightshift” and “golf pro lesson tilted spiral” part 1, 2 and 3 as an expansion to this video; Great comment and very astute observation once again; thanks! Shawn

Shawn, Tried this & pulled a rt side **** muscle. On a positive note this drill has really helped.
? If your rt hip stays back & you rotate the left, this would move your whole pelvis farther away from the ball than at address. Is this true? Can you expand on this

Yes; you could use a chair; it would start to tip over as your right hip slides around back and then try to make it tip over as you return the left hip back to it; this could be a good video!:)
Stay tuned! Shawn

This is the video that I always come back to when I’m having problems. I have a tendency to “Early Extend” when I try to hit the ball hard. If I keep my **** back on the window I maintain my posture and hit the ball very good. Is there a training aid that I can use on the range to accomplish this? Perhaps hitting against a PVC pipe, chair etc? Thanks again Shawn…

Superb video. I have really been struggling with initiating my downswing with and getting the correct sequencing of weight transfer and hip rotation. This is the best video I’ve seen on explaining this move. I love the fact you keep it simple! The beauty is this drill can be done at home. Thanks Shawn.

hi,
once again, great stuff. your explanation is so clear that even people like me with limited talent in golf could understand. I like the way you repeat the important key words and phrases.
