Sure; you are on the right track; the right side acts as a support post to either reflect you back to the left side or to keep you braced against the left side; leverage from the right into a solid brace against the left side; you can start 50-50 and we have found that many benefit more to starting 60% against the left side; Shawn

Also, is this the same for fairway woods and driver - especially driver when trying to sweep ball off tee? thanks bud.

Hi again Shawn- I may have asked you this B4 - apologies if i did. I seem to remember seeing something about weight distribution being 50/50 at setup and staying 50/50 throughout the backswing. This vid throws me a bit. I’m working in the sensation of the back leg playing a supporting role as the swing ‘floats’. Could you clarify a little? best regards, Paul.

This really allows me to connect with a useful body sensation and get out of head. I’m still thinking but the mind goes to bodily sensations, and is now connected to the body…very cool.

Shawn, thanks a lot for your reply. I have been watching those videos you recommended several times each and i have implemented it on my swing. The irons seem to be smooth but I am not hitting the woods, specially off the turf with the same success, anything i should do different for woods/driver?
i ordered your DVD cant wait for it to arrive…

Hey Man; sorry for the delay!
This is a very important move; see the “golf pro lesson golf swing medicine”, ” “” ” ” Momentum Toss” part 1 and 2; ” “” “” perpetual motion drill” and you will get the point!
Also, Golf pro lesson takeaway and starting the swing!

I agree. Shawn does an excellent job with analogies for “feel”. This is the ONLY way I learn, is by getting the correct feeling.

shawn, i have been watching some of your videos and they are awesome, i really like the analogies you use to ingrain sensations and understand the motions easily. One question, what is that little move to the inside you do with your right leg right before starting your swing, kind of like a cue.

Tks

Yeeaahh! Now you are thinking along the same train of thought and putting 2 and 2 together; very efficient way to putt!
Great comment; thanks!

I have been working on this.. Thanks much. Similarly do you think “stacking” on the the left hip and the feeling about the arm sockets that you describe will work for putting (without the hip turn of course)….in other words attempting to stabilize the lower body on the left hip and use the “pull” of the sockets to create a repeatable and feelable putting stroke??

Yes! And for others it is the opposite; the drill that really helps coordinate them is the “How to clear the hips” video;
you can also watch the “Arms Falling” video which would be up your alley as well as the “perpetual motion drill” video;
Thanks for the great comment! Shawn

Excellent video again! Quick question: I seem to be more consistent if I focus on the acceleration of my hands to start the downswing (+ maintaining the tilted position + feeling socket pull). Video analysis shows that my weight shifts first (as you say) and the hip swivels, but it seems to come naturally. If I focus on a weight-shift start, my hands are often too slow and get trapped behind the body. Could it be that certain players get better rythm by focusing on starting hands first?

No, not at all! I had a good 12 inches to the side of it…it is when it was hitting the net above the camera that it started falling too close for comfort and I had to move the direction of momentum to the right; And yes, thanks, it feels like I can chip in at any given time around the greens with this method and put is inside 10 feet from 40 to 60 yards…Shawn

Did you slam a ball into the camera lense during this clip? If not, nice short game!

So I am not consciously thinking about the left leg; it is reacting to the downward force of the arms coming down, then as the hips and the **** returns away from the target to allow the arms to plow the momentum through towards the target; the left leg is now pulling away from the target to anchor the release of the club when it catches up to the hands…it is all feel and the left leg will retain a bit of flex into the finish; it should not have to extend fully…Thanks for the comment!

Hey Duffy; Great question;
Imagine you are on the edge of a cliff with a bungee tied around your waist and the other end tied to an anvil; you toss the anvil over and the edge from your right side and feel the gradual increase in the pulling of it’s weight and then when it starts to rebound back up, you feel the resistance give way and feel the extension in the left leg as it swings back up on the left side; the gradual clearing of the hips on the left side also contributes to the extension…

Great video. Here is my question: how does maintaining the “stack” and “oily ball bearing” interact with the straightening of the left leg? Do you straighten that leg hard during the down swing? Does it stay bent the whole time?

Very good info, Shawn! Very nice when you can make the golf swing more simple rather than so many intructors who want to complicate it! It should be simple!
